Only Minolta A-mount lenses can fit on Sony Alpha DSLR cameras. Sony and Minolta briefly merged in 2005 before Minolta subsequently handed over all of its assets to Sony after announcing their end to producing camera equipment. As a result, Sony used Minolta's A-mount on their Alpha SLR series, making their cameras compatible with Minolta's A-mount lenses.
The A-Mount
Minolta produced a wide variety of lenses including wide-angle, macro and telephoto lenses. There is a total of 98 A-mount lenses that are compatible with Sony Alpha cameras.
Attaching the Lens
Attach the Minolata lens to the Sony Alpha SLR by lining up the red dots on the lens and lens mount. Turn the lens clockwise until you hear a clicking noise. The noise will indicate that the lenses is securely mounted.
