Troubleshoot The Sound On A Sony Digital 8

Adjust the audio recording properties in your Sony Digital 8 camcorder.

Sony Digital 8 is an older video-camera format used by the electronics company. The digital-video cameras are no longer in production and are predecessors to the miniDV camcorders, which were then followed by miniDVD cameras and then hard-drive-based cameras. Most Sony Digital 8 camcorders have a built in microphone, allowing you to record audio without an external microphone. However, if the audio is not sounding or capturing correctly there are a troubleshooting methods available to correct the issues.

Instructions

1. Watch your hand placement on the Sony Digital 8 video camera. If your hand is touching the grooved indentation where the microphone is positioned, you are going to receive a static-like recording when playing back the video.

2. Protect the video camera from the wind. Place your hand or any other sturdy device in front of the microphone to block the wind (but don't touch the microphone). Wind adds a noisy, static sound to the recording when blowing across the microphone.

3. Press the "Menu" button on the Sony Digital 8 camcorder, next to the LCD screen, then choose the "Sound Options" and set the recording to "16 bit" instead of "8 bit." this improves the overall recording quality of the camera.

4. Return to the "Sound Menu" if you are attempting to record onto an external microphone that is connected to the camera via cable. You need to adjust the camera settings in order for the camera to capture audio through the external microphone. Choose the "Recording Type" in the "Sound Options Menu, then select "External Microphone." If you don't make this selection the video camera does not record any audio.
