Being comfortable with your camera is an important part of taking great pictures.
The Canon 1D is a high quality digital SLR camera. SLR cameras are single lens reflex, which means they have a separate body and lens. This means far greater picture quality than would be possible with a small "point and shoot" camera. A range of different lenses suitable for different purposes can be used with an SLR camera. These lenses include wide angle for taking photos of large wide areas, zoom for zooming in on far away subjects, telephoto for photographing subjects at a distance and macro for shooting close up subjects in fine detail. The Canon 1D can be used in either automatic or manual mode. Automatic mode is the simple way of ensuring photos are correctly exposed and in focus. Manual mode allows the photographer to exercise greater control over the way the subject is photographed
Instructions
1. Attach the lens to the Canon 1D camera body. Line up the red dots on the lens and the body so they are in the same position, then turn the lens in a clockwise direction until it clicks into place. Remove the lens cap.
2. Remove the battery cover and insert the battery. Turn the release handle at the end of the battery in a clockwise direction while inserting the battery. Close the battery cover.
3. Check the battery level on the LCD display panel on top of the camera. Ensure the battery symbol is fully black, which means the battery is fully charged.
4. Open the CF card slot cover which is on the back of the camera to the bottom right of the viewfinder. Insert the CF card in the slot and close the cover.
5. Turn the power switch on the top of the Canon 1D camera to the "On" position. Press the "Quality" and "WB" buttons, which are to the left of the power switch, at the same time for two seconds. This will bring up the default settings.
6. Set the focus mode switch on the lens to AF, which will provide automatic focusing. Look through the viewfinder and arrange the center of the subject in the oval shaped auto-focus ring.
7. Press the shutter button halfway down to focus the subject. This will also ensure the correct shutter speed and aperture are selected.
8. Press the shutter button down fully to take the photo. The photo will be visible on the display shortly after taking it.
9. Turn the focusing switch on the lens to "MF," for manual focusing. Look through the viewfinder and turn the lens focusing ring with your hand until the subject looks sharp in the oval shaped auto-focus ring.
10. Press the "Mode" button on the top left of the camera in while rotating the dial on the top right until "M" appears in the top LCD display panel. The camera is now in manual exposure mode.
11. Turn the dial on the top right to set the shutter speed. Turn the large circular quick control dial on the rear of the camera to set the aperture
12. Check the shutter speed and aperture on the top LCD panel. For hand held pictures, make sure the shutter speed selected is no slower than 1 1/125 of a second or the photo will be blurred due to camera shake. Place the camera on a tripod for slower shutter speeds. Press the shutter button down fully to take the photo.
