Charge A Nickel Metal Hydride Battery

Charge your NiMH batteries in a matter of hours.

Nickel Metal Hydride batteries, also known as NiMH rechargeable cells, are a popular choice among consumers who wish to use portable electronic devices. While these devices can use conventional batteries, conventional batteries are not rechargeable, making them a less environmentally friendly option--and, in the long run, more costly to the consumer (NiMH batteries can be recharged hundreds of times). Charging NiMH batteries is a simple procedure that will restore them for use in a few hours.

Instructions

1. Purchase a NiMH battery charger. Prices may vary according to brand name, how long the charger takes to charge the battery cells and how many batteries it can charge at one time (see Resources). Make sure the charger is specific to NiMH batteries, and not NiCD (Nickel Cadmium).

2. Put the batteries into the charger with the polarities (+ and - signs) of the cells lined up with the corresponding sides of the charger.

3. Plug your NiMH battery charger into an available power outlet. Most chargers will have a LED light indicator on them to signal when the charger is plugged in. At this point, the LED indicator should be red, indicating that the charger is indeed receiving power.

4. Take out the batteries once the LED turns green, or after the designated amount of time has passed since plugging in the charger as specified by the user's manual. Use the NiMH batteries until they run out, and repeat the process.
