Legally Record A Conversation

With the litigious nature of our society, recording phone conversations has become quite a sticky issue. The FCC has some pretty tight rules that govern the recording of conversations. However, as a consumer, you can legally record phone conversations for your own protection and benefit if you feel an organization provides fraudulent information. Following these simple steps will help you to stay well within your legal rights when recording conversations as a consumer.

Instructions

1. Connect your multi-phone controller to your telephone and recording device according to the printed instructions that accompany it. If you're using a speaker phone, you don't have to worry about this step. Simply queue your recording device for the call.

2. Begin recording.

3. State your name, whom you are calling, the current date and the current time with time zone.

4. Call the organization or party whom you're recording. Be sure the telephone numbers' tones are recorded.

5. Refrain from speaking during hold time if you have to wait to be transferred to another department.

6. Proceed with your conversation when you are connected with the appropriate party.

7. Conclude your call and state the time it ended according to the time on the exact same clock you used to record your beginning time. This prevents the other party from posing any legal challenges to your recording.
