Get Slingbox Software Working

The Slingbox is a multimedia device that enables you to stream content from your cable or satellite box over the Internet so that you can access it while away from home. As of November 2010, the Slingbox SOLO and Slingbox PRO-HD are the only two Slingbox devices available. The SOLO allows you to connect your Slingbox to one HD video component and one SD video component. In comparison, the PRO-HD allows you to connect both of those components, as well as an HD antenna to stream the over-the-air channels you receive. Installing the SlingPlayer software onto your computer is simple and will enable you to enjoy your favorite TV programming from your cable box anywhere you have a high-speed Internet connection.

Instructions

1. Download the SlingPlayer software (see Resources) and install it onto your computer's desktop. Double-click on the "SlingPlayer" icon to launch the software and begin the setup process. Scroll through the list of various countries under the heading "Select Your Country" and choose the country that you will primarily be using your Slingbox in. Press the "Next" button at the lower-right portion of the screen.

2. Choose the appropriate input connection type to use with your Slingbox. Choose the "Component" option if your Slingbox is connected to your cable box via component video cables. Choose the "Composite" option if your Slingbox is connected to your cable box via composite video cables. Press the "Next" tab.

3. Select your input device from the "Television Source" column. Click on the "Cable box" tab if your Slingbox receives its channels from a set-top box. Click on the "Satellite or Free-to-Air Receiver" option if your Slingbox is connected to a satellite TV box. Press the "Next" tab to finalize your selection. Press the "Finish" button to complete the SlingPlayer software installation.

4. Update your Slingbox's firmware through the SlingPlayer software to enjoy the latest features and bug fixes. Double-click on the "SlingPlayer" icon on your computer's desktop to launch the software. A dialog box will appear if an update is available. Click on the "Update Now" button and input your Slingbox username and password. Press the "Apply" tab to initiate the update and wait as it is installed onto your Slingbox. The software will automatically close and restart. You are now ready to enjoy watching your favorite TV shows on the SlingPlayer software.
