Find The Firewire Port On Your Camcorder

A FireWire port on your camcorder is a very desirable option. FireWire ports and USB 2.0 cables are two of the fastest ways to transfer your digital images to your computer. The first FireWire transfers were around 400 Mbps, and the most recent ones reach around double that figure.

Instructions

1. Find out what kind of FireWire port your camcorder has. Look in the instruction manual to see whether it is a 4-pin or a 6-pin port. They look slightly different with the 6-pin (intuitively) being larger.

2. Look for symbols on your camera. Symbols indicating a FireWire port include a circle surrounded by three sets of bars spreading away from the circle.

3. Look for the shape of the FireWire port. It's close to a rectangle with either 4 or 6 pins in the center. It has one end slightly tapered, making a 6-sided shape that is close to a rectangle.

4. Look under covers. Sometimes FireWire ports are covered by a protective plastic guard to keep them clean and functioning. Most of the time, these are marked by the symbol indicating "FireWire."
