When you start shopping around for a professional-grade camcorder, two models that you may come across are the Panasonic AG-HVX200 and the Canon XL2. Since both camcorders are expensive, you want to make sure you are choosing the best product for you. To do this, draw comparisons between the features, price and specifications of both professional camcorders.
Instructions
1. Find the product pages of each camcorder. The product pages can delve into the specifications, features, accessories and support options (see links in References).
2. Check the format that the camera records in. The Canon XL2 is a standard definition camcorder while the Panasonic AG-HVX200 can produce high definition recordings. The Panasonic AG-HVX200 has multiple recording formats, including 1080/60i, 1080/24p, 1080/24pA, 480/60i and 480/24p. The Canon XL2 can record in the 480 standard definition mode.
3. Compare the image resolution for each camcorder. Image resolution can indicate how clear the video recordings will appear during playback. The Panasonic AG-HVX200 and Canon XL2 both can switch between 16:9 and 4:3 for the recordings.
4. Review compatible playback options. The tape format used by the Canon XL2 is Mini-DV. For the Panasonic AG-HVX200, you can place your recordings on the Mini-DV tape or save the images on a SD card or P2 card for tapeless recordings.
5. Look at the prices of the Panasonic AG-HVX200 and Canon XL2. The manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) of both high definition camcorders is approximately the same, with many stores selling the devices for about $4,000.
