1. Get someone to give you a jump. The phrase "jumping a battery" refers to the process of transmitting an electrical signal from one battery to another. Using jumper cables, the transmission of high-voltage energy from one battery to another can temporarily revive a dead battery so that the car will start. To properly jump-start a battery, a specific procedure must be followed. If you do not know use jumper cables, contact a towing service or roadside assistance.


2. Recharge your battery. Some towing companies can recharge your battery on-site using special equipment. Otherwise, they can tow your vehicle to a mechanic or a maintenance center, where your battery can be recharged for a fee. In addition, there are a variety of do-it-yourself battery chargers on the market that you can keep in the trunk of your car for when battery issues arise.


3. Replace your battery. Often, batteries will wear out from use and need to be replaced. Be sure to replace your automobile's battery with the correct size and voltage battery. If you are not knowledgeable about how your car battery disconnects or properly install a new unit, consult a professional mechanic. In addition, when disposing of the old battery, contact local recycling officials or your mechanic, who can advise you on properly dispose of the old unit.
