Clean A Smelly Microphone

Constant use of a microphone over a sustained period of time can not only damage the internal components of the microphone, but also make the microphone dirty and smelly. Not only is this unpleasant for the people who are using it, but debris on the microphone can also affect the overall sound quality. However, there is a way to clean the microphone before any of these problems arise.

Instructions

Dynamic Microphones

1. Locate the screws on the grille at the front of your microphone. Use your fingers to carefully unscrew the grille. Lift the grille away from the microphone.

2. Place warm water into a bowl and add a small amount of washing liquid.

3. Dip a toothbrush into the warm water and use it to thoroughly clean all of the grille, removing any dirt of debris that is present.

4. Leave the grille to completely dry. If you put it back on while it is still wet it could damage your microphone.

5. Place the dry grille back on to the microphone and reattach by reinserting the earlier removed screws.

Condenser Microphone

6. Unscrew the screws attached to the grille with your hands and lift it away from the microphone. If the grille does not remove, you can still clean it while attached to the microphone.

7. Turn the microphone upside down while you clean it. This will allow any excess debris or dirt to simply fall off the microphone.

8. Use a dry toothbrush to clean away all debris on the grille. Do not use any water as water can damage the condenser part of the microphone.
