Use The Fuji S5000 Tutorial

Released in 2003, the Fuji FinePix S5000 was one of the early models in Fuji's bridging camera series. Not quite a point-and-shoot and not quite a digital single lens reflex (DSLS), the FinePix S5000 has a high-quality fixed lens with manual zoom controls on a point-and-shoot body. It is a 3.1 megapixel camera, and can be found used for $175 (as of November 2010).

Instructions

Setting Up the Camera

1. Attach the shoulder strap to the two brackets on either side of the camera. Loop one end of the strap through the bracket and tuck the loose end under the plastic guide. Pull the lens cap cord through the strap, and then pass the lens cap through the loop in the strap. This will prevent you from losing the lens cap during shooting.

2. Turn the camera over and slide the battery cover to open it. Insert four AA batteries as indicated.

3. Open the memory card/media cover on the side of the camera. Pull on the cover to open it. Insert the memory card so that the indicators are in line, and then close the cover.

Taking Photos and Video

4. Rotate the power switch to "Photography" mode to turn the camera on in shooting mode. If you wish to review photos, you can turn the camera on to "Review" mode instead. If this is the first time the camera has been turned on, set the time and date. Rotate the selector dial to "Auto" to enter automatic shooting mode.

5. Frame your photo through the viewfinder. If the viewfinder appears blurry or out of focus, slide the dial beside it to adjust the focus of the viewfinder. If you wish to use the LCD for shooting, press the "EVF/LCD" button to toggle between the viewfinder and LCD.

6. Press the "T" button to zoom in on your subject, or the "W" button to zoom out. If the camera is set to manual focus, rotate the lens dial to focus the shot. To use auto focus (recommended for beginners), rotate the focus mode selector (to the left of the viewfinder) to "S-AF." Press the shutter release button halfway to autofocus the shot, and then press it all the way do take the photo.

7. Rotate the mode selection dial to "Video" to begin shooting video. Frame the scene and adjust the zoom as in steps two and three, and then press the shutter button halfway to focus the camera and all the way down to begin recording.

8. Turn the power dial to "Review" mode to enter playback. Use the control pad on the rear of the camera to scroll through photos. You can zoom in and out on your photos with the zoom controls. Press "Menu/OK" to bring up a menu that includes the option to delete photos.
