XM Radio modules route satellite radio through the installed stereo.
While GM has entered into a deal with XM Radio to offer certain models of cars that come with satellite radio pre-installed, owners without XM still can install satellite radio through a pair of add-ons. Typically, XM Radio packages will come with an installation kit that contains two items for easy hook-up: a satellite antenna and a small control panel. Receiving XM Radio service requires a monthly subscription. You can sign up of online through the XM Radio website.
Instructions
1. Choose an XM Radio receiver. Receivers come in two models: an add-on modular unit or an XM unit to replace the radio installed in your car. Integrated models can be more difficult as it requires completely removing the installed car radio and replacing it with the XM receiver. Module add-on receivers come with a stick-on mount that should be placed in a suitable (flat) location near the dashboard or console. Press the adhesive end firmly onto the surface, and allow it to secure for 24 hours before usage.
2. Position the antenna at the highest exterior point of the vehicle. Peel away the adhesive cover, and firmly press the antenna into place.
3. Route the antenna wire into the plastic around the windows or trunk and into the car. The exact feed depends on the type of car and location of the antenna, but most GM vehicles have space near the floor boards or in the ceiling to conceal the wire.
4. Bring the wire up to the XM Radio receiver. The most common wiring wraps under and behind the glove compartment then goes either out to the modular receiver or back into the paneling for the XM-installed receiver.
5. Plug the antenna wire into the receiver.
