Hook Up An Mp3 Player To A Cd Player

Although CD players have become less common with the advent of the MP3 player, many people still use CD players in their home stereo systems. If you have a CD player, you can connect your MP3 player to it using a 3.5 mm cable. Your CD player, however, must have some kind of audio input jack to allow peripheral devices to be connected to the CD player. There are two methods you can use depending on your CD player's input jack. If your CD player has a direct 3.5 mm audio input jack, you can connect your MP3 player directly to the CD player. However, if your CD player only has RCA inputs, you will need to use a 3.5 mm to RCA cable.

Instructions

1. Turn off your CD player and your MP3 player. Do not connect the two devices while they are on.

2. Plug the 3.5 mm cable into your MP3 player's headphone jack. This step will be the same regardless of the cable you are using.

3. Connect the opposite end of the cable into your CD player. This may differ depending on what cable you are using. If your CD player has a direct 3.5 mm input, use the 3.5 mm to 3.5 mm cable and plug it directly into the jack. If your CD player only has RCA inputs, plug the red and white RCA cables into the red and white input jacks of your CD player.

4. Turn on your CD player and change the audio input source to "Auxiliary."

5. Turn on your MP3 player and make sure the volume turned no louder than about 50%. If it is any louder, the sound will likely be distorted. Play a song through the CD player and adjust the volume if necessary.
