Use An Md Mount Lens On A Minolta Camera

Appearing in 1977, the Minolta MD series of lenses were of a bayonet type, allowing a strong connection between camera and lens. The lens never featured an autofocus feature but could communicate with the camera body.

The MD lenses were built to high standards but are not used today, because they have been superseded by newer mounts, and Minolta is now owed by Sony.

Naturally, MD lenses are easy to use on MD-mount cameras, but newer, AF (autofocus) mount Minolta cameras require an adapter.

Instructions

Using A Minolta MD Camera

1. Line up the red dot on the lens with the red dot on the camera lens mount. The lens should slide in.

2. Turn the lens clockwise gently until you hear a click. The lens is now mounted and ready for use.

3. Remove the lens when changing by pressing the "lens release button" next to the lens on the camera. Turn the lens anti-clockwise, and the lens will release.

Using A Minolta/Sony AF-Mount Camera

4. Attach the lens adapter to the lens by lining up the red dot on the lens with the red dot on the lens adapter.

5. Turn the MD lens clockwise until you hear a click.

6. Line up the red dot on the adapted lens with the red dot on the AF camera body.

7. Turn the adapted lens clockwise until you hear a click. The lens can now be used in manual mode with the AF camera body.

8. Remove the adapted lens by pressing the "lens release button," which is located near the lens on the camera body. Turn the adapted lens anti-clockwise. The adapted lens will now come free.

9. Press the "lens release" button on the lens adapter. This is the only button on the adapter, so it is easy to find.

10. Turn the MD lens anti-clockwise until it comes free.
