The DV1680 is a portable DVD player -- and audio CD player -- that Audiovox Corp. released in 2002. The DV1680 features a color screen measuring just under 7 inches, and weighs a little more than 2 lb., without its battery. While the device is discontinued, you can still purchase the DV1680 on the secondhand market as of 2011.
Design Specs
Just like a laptop computer, the Audiovox DV1680 has a clamshell form factor, which means its top folds down when the device is not in use. With its top in the closed position, the DV1680 has dimensions of 6.62 inches wide, 6.77 inches deep and 1.38 inches high. The portable DVD player has a silver enclosure color and a total approximate weight of 2.2 lb., excluding its battery pack.
Screen Specs
The screen of the Audiovox DV1680 portable DVD player relies on an active-matrix variety of liquid-crystal display (LCD) technology known as thin-film transistor (TFT). Unlike a standard LCD screen, a TFT screen designates individual transistors to each of its on-screen pixels, or tiny squares of illumination. Using TFT technology, the Audiovox DV1680's screen can provide a maximum resolution of 89,856 pixels. The more pixels a screen can display, the greater level of detail it can provide. The DV1680's screen has a size of 6.8 inches, as measured along the screen's diagonal, and an aspect ratio 4 to 3. Aspect ratio refers to the relationship between a screen's width and a screen's height.
Compatibility
In addition to being able to play DVDs, the DV1680 can accommodate SVCDs, audio and video CDs, CD-Rs and CD-RWs. More specifically, when it comes to CD-Rs and CD-RWs, the DV1680 is compatible with audio MP3 files that have been burned to these recordable formats. For playing television programming, the portable DVD player is compatible with Phase Alternating Line (PAL) and National Television System Committee (NTSC) analog broadcasting formats.
DAC
Digital-to-analog conversion (DAC) is a reference to how well a device can convert digital signals, specifically binary code, into analog signals. These analog signals are sent to analog screens, when it comes to video DAC; and analog speakers, when it comes to audio DAC. The DV1680 has a video DAC rating of 10 bits at 27MHz and an audio DAC rating of 24 bits at 96kHz. Higher DAC bits and frequencies correlate to faster conversion rates.
Connections & Cables
For connecting the DV1680 to external devices and components, the portable DVD player provides several connections and cables. Connections include one TOSLINK SPDIF output, one four-pin mini-DIN S-Video output, one composite video/audio input/output, one mini-phone stereo 3.5 mm headphones input and one DC power input. Cables include one A/V cable, one optical audio cable and one car connection adapter cable.
Battery Specs
Powering the Audiovox DV1680 portable DVD player is a rechargeable, lithium-ion battery. When fully charged, this battery can provide the Audiovox DV1680 with approximately 3.5 hours of run time.
