Problems With Formatting An Sd Card

Maintain your SD card to prevent problems in the future.

Secure Digital (SD) storage cards are an excellent way of storing data in a robust and highly portable form. They can be read and recognized by many different devices, such as PCs, cameras and laptops. Like any form of storage media, though, they can become corrupted, potentially losing vital data and even stopping you from formatting the card itself. There are a few ways to format your SD card, so you should try each before giving up on the card.

Format with Camera

Format the card itself in a camera. Insert the card into the camera's SD slot and select the "format" option.

Format with Computer

Insert the SD card into your computer. Open file manager and right-click on SD Card/Removable Media. Select "Format."

Formatting Software

Open your web browser and go to the SD Association website. The Association offers specialized SD memory card formatting software. Download the PDF instructions and then download the software itself. Run the program and follow the instructions featured in the PDF.
