Troubleshooting A Lcd Nec Model Vt45k Projector

The NEC VT45K is a home theater projector that is compatible with several output devices, such as DVD players or computers. You may experience problems with the VT45K that keep the projector from running as intended. When problems occur, troubleshoot the machine and fix any issues that are not serious.

Projector Does Not Turn On

The VT45K may not turn on for several reasons. First, make sure the power cord is plugged into a working outlet and that the power button has been switched to "On." You may need to check the power outlet with another device to ensure that is receiving power.

Next, make sure the lamp cover is on the projector and installed correctly. The VT45K includes a safety feature that will not allow the projector to start up if the lamp cover is not installed on the machine. The lamp cover is located on the bottom of the projector and is held in place with a screw. Check that the lamp cover is firmly in place and use the supplied screw driver to check that the screw is tight.

If the lamp cover is in place, make sure there is adequate ventilation for the projector. Any obstructions blocking airflow could cause the projector to operate at a higher than normal temperature, which will shut down the machine. The same will happen if the projector is run in a room that is very warm.

Finally, check the amount of hours of use the lamp has undergone. When the usage meter reaches 1,100 hours, the projector will not turn on. This is another safety feature that keeps the glass of the lamp from shattering. Replace the lamp if it reaches 1,100 hours.

Picture Does Not Project

When the printer is on but no picture appears on the screen, the cause is most often the source setting or connection to the source. Using the remote control, press the "Menu" button and choose "Source Select." In this menu you can choose between "RGB," "S-Video" and "Video." Select the connection you made to the external device.

Next, check that all of the connections are correct and secure in both the projector and the external device. Though everything is color coded for easy use, there are times when a connection is incorrect. Make sure all of the wires are in their correct ports.

If you are still unable to get a picture, press the "Menu" button on the remote control and choose "Picture." In this menu you can adjust the brightness, contrast, color, hue and sharpness of the picture. If any of the slider bars are fully to the left, select that bar and move it to the right with the arrow buttons until you can see the picture on the screen.

Finally, if you are unable to get a picture, try to reset the settings of the VT45K to the factory defaults. This will erase all of your settings, but may fix any issues with the projection. To reset to the factory defaults, press the "Menu" button and choose "Image Options." Select "Factory Default" and choose "All Data" to finish restoring the factory default settings.
