Install A Telephone Amplifier

A telephone amplifier is designed to turn your regular phone into an amplified phone. They're small, inconspicuous, portable and can be turned on and off so that people who need one and those who don't can share the same phone. Whether you need one because you work in a noisy office environment or because you or a family member has a hearing impairment, a telephone amplifier device is easy to install and simple to use.

Instructions

Install the Batteries

1. Remove the battery cover. Some types of devices may require you to unscrew the battery door to access the batteries, while other will slide and snap right off.

2. Insert the batteries, paying attention to match the polarities as indicated by the diagram.

3. Replace the battery cover, screwing it in place if necessary.

Install the Telephone Amplifier

4. Remove the handset cord from the telephone base. This is the springy, coiled wire that attaches the handset to the telephone. Insert the handset jack on the bottom of the amplifier, looking either for the word "handset," the abbreviation "Hndst" or for an icon depicting a handset.

5. Attach the pre-wired modular cord on the amplifier to the empty handset port on your telephone. If the model of amplifier you have isn't pre-wired, then attach one end of a modular phone line into the handset jack on the phone and the other into the jack on the amplifier.

6. Check the phone for a dial tone to ensure that the amplifier has been installed properly.

Use an Enclosed Headset

7. Connect the headset into the headphone jack on the amplifier.

8. Press the headset button on the amplifier and remove the handset from the phone.

Adjust the Volume

9. Locate the volume control knob on your amplifier. Some amplifiers also have a "boost" button that will incrementally increase the volume when it is pressed in conjunction with volume adjustment.

10. Rotate the volume control to change the volume of different frequencies. Turning it up will increase the volume on higher frequencies and turning it down will increase the volume of lower frequencies.

11. Use the "boost" button on your machine to amplify the sound with increased clarity.
