Speakers without exterior cabinets are recessed and secured around the edge of the cone.
Autotek's reputation is weighted toward robust and low-cost car audio equipment. The reduced size, but high power and volume makes this sub-woofer particularly suitable for installation in smaller cars, also the smaller size means reduced weight, if car performance is a factor. When comparing the SX-1066 to other car subwoofers and noting the sensitivity ratings, it often produces more decibels per watt than its more expensive competitors.
Construction
The SX-1066 is a non-enclosed 10-inch component subwoofer, meaning it is intended to function as part of a collection of speakers, all handling different frequency ranges. This particular speaker, being a subwoofer, handles only the very lowest bass frequencies. It does not have an external case, the internal basket frame bolts to the car's interior via a mounting bracket. The cone is a 10-inch concave disc of butyl rubber, and the speaker chassis is produced from die-cast aluminum.
Operation
The SX-1066 is a one-way speaker, meaning it possesses only a single cone. Normally this would be a limitation in a stand-alone speaker, as the cone can only represent a relatively narrow variety of sounds, but with the other component speakers in the car handling all the other frequencies, the overall effect is of a complete audio picture. The SX-1066 draws electrical power from the car to drive the large dual-stacked 40 oz. magnets which move the pair of aluminum voice coils.
Audio Specification
The overall power of the SX-1066 is 450 watts RMS. It operates with 6+6 Ohm impedance, due to the pair of 6 Ohm voice coils. Sensitivity is rated 86.9db. This is measured by running a standardized input level into the speaker, then measuring the output at a given distance. This is to determine the amount of energy lost by the speaker when converting the voltage to sound. A high sensitivity, such as the one above, denotes an efficient speaker.
Audio Connections & Mounting Information
Mounting the SX-1066 in a car requires a recess 10.75 inches long, and 5.32 inches deep. The speaker can then be mounted directly to the surface using the securing bolts around the rim of the cone.
A pair of silver-plated push terminals allow connection to the rest of your system using standard speaker wire, fitted with the appropriate spade connectors.
