Adjust The Focus On Your Lens

Twist the focus ring on a DSLR camera to adjust the focus in the image.

Focus is an important aspect of photography and videography because the person capturing the image dictates the object he wants to emphasize. Although traditional point-and-shoot cameras have the ability to manually adjust the focus on the lens, a Digital Single-Lens Reflex or DSLR camera gives a photographer the freedom to quickly adjust the focus ring on an object to soften the background and keep the object sharp. DSLR cameras have large image sensors to produce high-quality photographs as well as a mechanical mirror system to allow the viewer to see exactly what the lens sees.

Instructions

1. Aim your camera lens on a subject that is closer to you than other objects. The depth of field will make it easier for you to focus the subject while the background becomes out of focus.

2. Rotate the smaller ring, usually located near the front of the lens, clockwise to test the focus. If the subject comes into sharper focus, continue to adjust in a clockwise direction until the subject is completely in focus.

3. Rotate the smaller ring counterclockwise if turning the ring clockwise made the subject appear out of focus. Continue to adjust the ring until the subject becomes clear through the viewfinder.
