Tips On Projection Tv Care & Cleaning

Projection TVs provide an enormous and luminous experience for enjoying movies and television programs at home. The sets require a little regular maintenance and care to provide years of service.

Weekly Cleaning

Dust the projection TV screen at least once a week as necessary to remove dust and dirt. Static electricity on the screen will attract a lot of dust. Use a clean, lint-free cloth and a spray bottle of rubbing alcohol to wipe down the screen. Spray the alcohol on the cloth, never on the screen.

Remove rings, watches and bracelets to prevent accidentally scratching the delicate projection material on the screen.

TV Placement

Prolonged exposure to the sun can cause the reflective material on the back of your screen to fade or become clouded, so be sure to not set it in a place in the room that receives a lot of direct sunlight. Also, it is virtually impossible to enjoy a good picture on a projection TV in a brightly lighted room.

Cleaning the Color Guns

If your picture becomes blurry or faded, a bit of internal cleaning might fix the problem. Unplug the set from the power and remove the screws that hold the TV backing in place. Look for the three color guns--red, blue and green--shaped like cylinders inside the cabinet. Also find the reflective mirror that bounces light from the color guns to your screen. Clean the three guns and the mirror using a camera lens cleaning solution available at photography stores.
