Get Live Portable Tv

Using a smartphone is one way to view TV broadcasts.

Being out and about while the big game is on isn't necessarily a problem if you have the right tools to watch live TV broadcasts. A portable video player, a software application for streaming broadcasts and a wireless network connection are some of the tools people use to bring TV to their fingertips.

Using Multi-Purpose Devices

One way to watch TV on the go is to use a device you may already have that can stream video. Many portable multi-purpose devices are capable of streaming live TV broadcasts when connected to a wireless network. Examples are the iPod, iPod touch, iPad and Android-powered smart phones. You need a compatible software application to stream TV to these devices such as netTV, TVUPlayer or WorldView Live for Apple devices. Live TV Player, Ustream or Mera Live TV can be used for Android devices.

About TV Apps and Service Subscriptions

To stream TV broadcasts to your smart phone or tablet, you must download an "app." What apps are available depends on what device you use. Some are free; others charge a one-time fee for downloading. For an app to work you may also need a subscription to the service that streams the broadcasts. The service could be provided through your wireless carrier or through a third party. Some channels like major league sports channels offer exclusive subscriptions just to their own broadcasts. As of October 2011, prices for a TV service to a smart phone or tablet started at $10 per month.

Using a Laptop and Websites

If you don't want to use a hand-held device, a laptop with an Internet connection can also stream live TV broadcasts. Connect to wireless hotspots when you are on the go or use a wireless Internet card and a data plan from a wireless network service provider. Websites like wwiTV and Ustream.tv stream free broadcasts from multiple stations. Many TV broadcast stations also run live streams directly from their websites. Several sports broadcast stations offer live Internet broadcasts with a subscription.

Flo TV

As an alternative to computers and smartphones, Flo TV manufactures portable handheld televisions that work with a wireless subscription to its broadcasting service. Flo TV operates a TV network separate from other major wireless network providers. When you use this service, you are not competing for as much bandwidth. It doesn't require downloading or buffering, so it can potentially provide broadcasts faster than other services.
