Use A Telephone Headset

We are often in the middle of something when the phone rings. Rather than dropping everything or ignoring that important call, use a telephone headset. Using a headset will free your hands to multitask your time. If you are at work, you can be operating the computer to answer a question or solve a problem. There are many styles to choose from and one is sure to meet your needs.

Instructions

1. Decide what the headset is supposed to do. Both land line phones and cell phones allow the use of a headset. Studies have shown that individuals that spend much of their time on the phone suffer 40 percent more muscle strain and tension than those that spend little time on the phone. A headset gives you much needed relief from the muscle ache and pain generated from holding a handset and using your neck to "lock" it into your shoulder so you can use both hands to perform a task.

2. Find a style of headset that you are comfortable with. There are many to choose from. There are types where the receiver fits around the ear or slips into the ear canal and there are microphones that are on booms to sit in front of your mouth. Very sensitive ones are contained in the receiver. Everyone has different tastes and comfort characteristics.

3. Purchase the headset that will work best for your application. Hook the headset into the phone system and test it. To install the headset disconnect the handset from the telephone and connect the headset. Make sure that you have enough free wire to allow movement while you are on the phone. There are extensions of 10, 15 and 25 feet.

4. Learn to operate the control box or button on the headset. Most headsets have a box or button that allows you to take the phone off the hook and to hang the phone up. Some models also have mute buttons and buttons that allow you to place a call on hold. Don't wait until you are in the middle of a call to try to figure it out.
