The Kenwood TK 2170 two-way radio transceiver's primary use is to communicate using channels and frequencies in a specific area, like a walkie-talkie. Upon receiving your device, you may have a few questions about some of its programmable features. Following a few simple steps will have you operating your device in little time. Learn to power your device properly, turn it on, store channels and frequencies to your device, make calls using your autodial memory, and clear your previous autodial settings.
Instructions
Powering and Turning On the Transceiver
1. Charge the battery using the supplied charger.
2. Line the battery pack up with the back of your transceiver. Push the pack firmly against the receiver until you hear an audible click and the pack is locked into place. At the bottom of the battery pack, swing the catch down, locking the pack into the transceiver.
3. Turn the transceiver on by turning the "Volume" knob located on top of the device. A beep will sound, and the display will light up.
Storing Channels and Frequencies
4. Store Dual Tone Multi-Frequency numbers, used to access channels and frequencies, into your device by first pressing the "Autodial Programming" key.
5. Select your DTMF programming number -- 1 through 16 -- by either pushing the "" keys, turning the selector knob, or entering the correct number using the DTMF keypad. You can save up to 16 names to the device of eight characters apiece. Push the "S" key, located to the left underneath the display, or the "*" key, located in the far-left corner of the bottom of the DTMF keypad, to confirm the list number.
6. Enter the name for the listing by using the DTMF keypad. Push the "A" or "#" key to erase a mistyped character. When you're finished with the name entry, push "S." You should see the word "Store" blink on your display, unless you're overwriting a previous entry, in which case you'll see "Overwrt."
7. Push "S" or "*" to store the name and number in the Autodial memory.
Using Autodial" key to accept the first digit, and then select another digit, if you wish. Push "A," located to the right of the "S" key, to erase a typo. If you wish to erase all the numbers you've entered so far, push and hold the "A" key. Up to 16 digits can be entered in total.
10. Push the "PTT" button, located on the left edge of the radio, to make the call.
Clearing Autodial Settings
11. Clear all DTMF numbers by first pushing the "Autodial Programming" key.
12. Push the "" keys, turn the "Selector" knob, or use the DTMF keypad to select the desired Autoredial list number you wish to delete.
13. Push the "A" key, and you should see the word "Delete" appear on your display. Push the "S" key to delete it.
