The JVC KD-HDR60 and the Kenwood KDC-HD545U are in-dash CD receivers -- installed in the dashboard of automobiles -- from Japan-based consumer electronics manufacturers Victor Company of Japan, Ltd. (better known as JVC) and Kenwood Corp., respectively. They are alike in several aspects, although the JVC receiver is generally a better offering than the Kenwood receiver.
CD and Music Playback
The JVC KD-HDR60 and the Kenwood KDC-HD545U are primarily used for playing CDs: mainly audio CDs, CD-Rs (CD-Recordable) and CD-RWs (CD-Rewritable). Users can also record MP3 and Windows Media Audio files on CDs to play them on either receiver. Each KD-HDR60 and KDC-HD545U provides the ability to hook up a digital media player or any electronic device with music playback capabilities, such as the iPod and the iPhone, by plugging them into the USB interface. The display screen can show music playback information such as album title and artist name.
Radio
Each JVC KD-HDR60 and Kenwood KDC-HD545U has a high-definition AM/FM tuner. In fact, the letters "HD" in their model numbers symbolizes this feature. The JVC receiver has an FM frequency range of 87.5 to 107.9 megahertz and AM frequency range of 530 to 1,710 kilohertz. The Kenwood receiver matches the JVC product's AM frequency range, but falls a bit short with the AM frequency range -- at 530 to 1,700kHz.
Technical Specifications and Connectivity
Both 4-channel CD receivers, the JVC KD-HDR60 and the Kenwood KDC-HD545U generate 50 watts of audio power from each channel for a total of 200W. For CD playing, the JVC receiver, at 98dB, does not have as good of a signal-to-noise ration as the Kenwood product, which stands at 105dB. However, unlike the KDC-HD545U, the JVC KD-HDR60 is compatible with Bluetooth wireless technology, with the user able to perform functions such as handsfree calling, audio streaming and a maximum phone book contact transfer of 5,000.
Physical Dimensions
In terms of installation size, the JVC KD-HDR60 and the Kenwood KDC-HD545U share the same width and height: at 7.19 inches, or 182 millimeters; and 2.06 inches, or 52 mm, respectively. The JVC receiver, however, is slightly thicker than the Kenwood receiver; the former has a depth of 6.31 inches, or 160 mm, while the latter has a depth of 6.25 inches, or 158 mm.
