Adjust Mixing Valve On Hwt Outlet

my hwt has a mixing valve on it (new code requirement for the province of ontario). i understand the theory behind it, but in practice, my shower is now 97%+ hot water, so the shower water pressure is not what it could be. anybody know how i can adjust the outlet temp? there is a plastic cover on it that freewheels, and i can't see any easy way to adjust it.

I've only seen two types that free wheel, so I'll tell you what I know, and MAYBE it will help. BUT, had you posted a brand and model # it would have been better.
IF, the valve is of the temperature control type or the cheaper standard mixing type, it should be connected to the cold inlet on one side and the hot inlet on the other side. The center should go to your shower or bath. The ports may be marked differently if it is not the type I have dealt with before
To adjust you have to PUSH IN to engage the free-wheeling control knob. USUALLY counterclockwise will make it COLDER (letting more cold into the mix).
IF that does not work, try PULLING OUT instead, but be careful! Gently, you do not want to remove it.
Like I said, if it doesn't work that way, you will need to post a model number.
Good Luck!

tonight i pried off the cover and adjusted the valve 1.5 turns towards hot (it was set for maximum cold). it seems a little warmer, but not by much. i have to find out how many turns to max hot, or if the bolt will fall out if i keep unscrewing it (i'll never live it down if i flood the basement). it's a zurn wilkins aqua-gard zw1017 - i've googled and found installation instructions, but no note on whether there is a full-hot position. if nobody knows, i'll try tomorrow night when the wife is out (if i flood the basement and she finds out i'll never hear the end of it)

hot water in brand new Mississauaga house was not exactly hot - 43.8 C maximum in any faucet in the house. Adjusting hot water tank temperature made no difference even water in tank was 56C. Only regulating Aqua-Gard ZW1017 made the difference. 3 spins counter clockwise and I have nice 50 degrees in any faucet. Beer 4U2
