Doors are the most common location for car speakers.
According to the electronics specialist Crutchfield, doors are the most common location for car speakers. Factories often install speakers in the doors for convenience and for space reasons. If a door speaker has been damaged, or if an owner wishes to upgrade to a new or better type of speaker, he will need to replace the factory speaker. Most factory speakers are fairly easy to replace, and this typically require the removal of the grille, the wiring harness and the speaker itself. With a new door speaker installed, you can continue enjoying music in your car.
Instructions
1. Remove the grilles from the door speakers. Use a screwdriver to remove any screws attaching the grilles or to gently pry the grilles loose.
2. Use a screwdriver to remove the speaker mounting screws.
3. Cut any foam or sealing attached to the door speakers using a utility knife. Use caution not to damage wires.
4. Unplug the wiring harnesses from the door speakers.
5. Attach the new speakers by plugging in the door wiring harnesses.
6. Install the new speaker mounting screws with a screwdriver.
7. Replace the grilles by either pressing them in place over the speaker openings or reinstalling the grille screws.
Tips Warnings
For vehicles that require you to remove the door panel to remove the door speaker, disconnect the window crank or handle. Press in the surrounding door panel and rotate the handle until you see the spring clip. Gently push the clip off with a screwdriver. Remove the screws of an attached armrest using the screwdriver. Remove any additional screws holding the door panel. Use the screwdriver to slowly pry the bottom panel of the door straight out. Gently loosen the bottom and sides of the panel. Lift the panel straight up to free the top.
If the old door speakers still work, you may wish to reinstall them if you sell the automobile.
