The Bearcat 5 police scanner is used to monitor events going on around you wherever you may be, either at home or when traveling. The scanner comes with pre-programmed frequencies for every state and will scan Department of Transportation, Police and Highway Patrol frequencies. It also features empty channels for programming other frequencies that might not be entered, such as your public works department, buses and water utility company. The scanner is also terrific if you attend a NASCAR race; you can program in the frequencies for the pits.
Instructions
1. Select the state that you want to listen to on the scanner. Press the State button. You will see the state information on the display screen. To find the state you are in, press the State button and hold it down while the scanner moves through each state. When you find the state that you want to listen to, stop. You will now be listening to all frequencies in the immediate area.
2. Select the bank you want to listen to on the scanner. You can listen to Department of Transportation, Police or Highway Patrol by pressing the button that represents that particular frequency band. If there is a particular channel you want to listen to, press the Dot button when the scanner stops on that channel. To release the channel, press the Dot button again.
3. Program up to 100 channels yourself. This includes private frequencies, fire, news and additional Police and State Patrol channels. Make sure that the Memolock is set to the off position to begin programming other frequencies into the scanner.
4. Press the Band button to find the band where you will enter a new frequency. Then press the Prog button and select the channel, by moving up and down with the arrows, where you want to enter a new frequency. Press Prog again and enter the frequency number by using the keypad. Then press Enter. Move onto the next channel by pressing the arrow button and enter another channel. To start the scan when you are done, press the Dot button.
Tips Warnings
The memory backup will last for thirty days without being plugged into an electrical outlet.
