Install Traffic Master Allure Flooring
Traffic Master's Allure line of flooring, available only at Home Depot, is a type of glueless floating flooring, but it takes the ease of installation inherent in floating floors a step further. Allure is made of vinyl, not wood, so it needs no moisture barrier under it, and it and can be cut with a standard utility knife. Allure comes in several styles, with the vinyl manufactured to look like wood planks, marble tiles and other materials. Start with a flat, solid surface.
Instructions
1. Remove the trim around the perimeter of the floor, using your hammer and pry bar. Don't damage the trim as you remove it. Pull out the nails and set it aside.
2. Clean the floor with floor cleaner and a mop. Let it dry.
3. Lay the first course of Traffic Master Allure panels along the wall where you want to start. Connect the panels to each other at the side by the special connection strips. Set spacers between the panels and the wall as you lay them, creating a small gap that will allow the flooring to expand with temperature changes.
4. Lay as many full panels as will fit. Cut the final panel as needed, scoring the surface with a utility knife and bending it until it breaks.
5. Set the next courses in place alongside the first one, building out from the one end of the floor to the other. If your specific Allure kit is meant to simulate wood planks, stagger the panels so the ends don't line up. Your Allure kit is in square tiles; lay them in a grid. Cover the whole floor.
6. Cut the panels of your final course along their lengths, to fit by the ending wall. Leave about 3/8 inch there.
7. Reinstall your floor trim, using finish nails and your hammer. The trim will cover the spaces around the edges of the floor and hold it all down.
