Pioneer faucets have a scald guard that limits the temperature of water in your shower faucet to prevent scalding. This part is referred to as the temperature adjusting ring, and it is located on the tip of the cartridge. Removing the ring will allow the water from your faucet to achieve maximum temperature, which may result in scalding. However, if your water heater does not produce hot enough water, removing the ring can increase the water temperature so that it's more comfortable to shower.
Instructions
1. Close the water valve near your water heater to stop the water flow to the shower.
2. Remove the plug under the handle's lever. Remove the screw under it with an Allen wrench. Take out the screw and put it in a safe place.
3. Turn the retainer cap counterclockwise with your hands and take it off. Unscrew the hexagonal nut under the retainer with the proper hexagonal wrench. Put the part in a safe place for reassembly.
4. Turn the sleeve counterclockwise to unscrew it from the shower valve, then take the part off. This allows easier access to the temperature adjusting ring.
5. Pull the adjusting ring back and off the faucet. The adjusting ring is the round collar around the cartridge stem, which is the square knob onto which the handle slides. Use a pair of pliers to pry the ring off, if needed.
