Rival Soft Serve Ice Cream Maker Instructions

Nothing beats the heat in the summer time like ice cream. For years, making homemade ice cream meant long hours turning a hand crank, but now all it takes is the flip of a switch on an ice cream maker. The Rival Soft Serve Ice Cream Maker turns out delicious results with little effort in a short amount of time. Any homemade ice cream recipe can be used in a Rival Soft Serve Ice Cream Maker.

Preparing the Maker

Place the canister in the freezer at least 24 hours prior to making the ice cream. Check to make sure the ice cream maker is clean before use. If the machine needs to be cleaned, follow the cleaning steps outlined in section three below. Place the rubber seal underneath the canister lid and insert the screw into the opening of the lid. Fix the dasher assembly (the piece that churns the ice cream) over the bottom of the screw. Insert into canister lid, and turn to the right until it clicks in place.

Using the Maker

Prepare the ice cream mixture according to recipe instructions and chill. Once the canister is frozen and the ice cream mixture is chilled, plug in the maker into an electrical outlet and place the canister into the appropriate spot on the machine. Place the canister lid and the clear lid over the entire canister. Lock the three latches in place. Fit the desired tip over the opening where the ice cream dispenses. Push the rocker switch to the on position. As the machine is working, pour the chilled ice cream mixture into the hole of the unit. Leave room at the top, as the ice cream will expand. Churn according to recipe instructions. Dispense directly from the canister. Or, if using later, remove the frozen ice cream using a plastic or wooden spoon and transfer to a container and freeze until desired.

Cleaning the Maker

Using a damp, soapy cloth, wipe all exterior surfaces of the ice cream maker. Wash the removable parts, including the canister, top cover, lid, screw, and collar that fits around the top of the machine in hot, soapy water. Never place the canister in the dishwasher, as this will permanently damage it. Dry all parts thoroughly before using or storing. The canister can be stored in the freezer, so that it is always ready for use.
