Carrier bypass humidifier installed wrong?
My brother and I both bought the same house from the same builder. The HVAC system is a dual-furnace, dual-A/C setup and we both opted for humidifiers. Yesterday I noticed that on my furnaces the Carrier bypass humidifier is installed on the hot-air duct coming out of the furnace, with the bypass duct coming into the humidifier from the cold-air return duct. My brother's is installed the opposite way - i.e. the Carrier unit is attached to the cold-air return duct going into the furnace, with the bypass ducting being attached to the hot-air vent coming from the furnace. Which one is correct? I assume that our builder will end up having to fix at least one of the setups... grr. :mask: l8r) Did some research, and I'm still confused, as the installation instructions aren't 100% clear either. It seems like Carrier is saying to install the humidifier above the furnace (i.e. on the hot-side), but they could have been a little bit clearer. The installation instructions state this: ... and the Humidistat install instruction show this: l8r) I am not able to get in the link.. You must of signed up for member ship there? on a bypass unit, it really don't matter what side the unit is on. I now a lot of us prefer the unit on the return than supply. Just less chance of water damage to the furnace if something did fail on you. If the unit was on the supply, and the tray over flowed, the water then will flow down into the furnace, and may damage the motor. If there is no room on return, then supply is the next step. Ok, thanks. So the air flow through the bypass humidifier is the same either way? l8r) Right, the air will flow from the supply duct into the return, so either way the air is going to go over the pad one way or another.
