A tear in a leather Tonneau truck cover can be repaired with a leather Tear-Aid repair kit. The repair kit will patch the tear with a stretch material, and allow you to use the cover as if it were brand new. The patch is air tight, water tight and won't age or deteriorate over years. By repairing your own Tonneau truck cover, you can save money and brush up on your repair skills.
Instructions
1. Wash the area around the tear thoroughly with a half rubbing alcohol, half warm water mixture. Allow the area to completely dry before patching the tear.
2. Cut a patch that extends one inch around every side of the tear. Round all the corners of the patch.
3. Pull back a half inch of the paper liner on the patch and press the patch down on one edge of the tear. Make sure the edge is one inch outside of the tear. Run your finger along the half inch of the patch to secure it to the cover.
4. Peel off the rest of the paper liner and slowly press the patch over the rest of the tear. Make sure to apply pressure to the patch as you lay it on the cover to ensure there are no air bubbles. Rub all over the patch to secure it to the cover.
5. Put a patch on the back side of the tear, if you have access to it, by repeating steps 1 through 4.
6. Apply a heat gun at 350 degrees to the patch for 10 to 20 minutes, or allow the patch to set for 24 hours before using.
Tips Warnings
Do not put the cover in a washer or dryer.
