The T-shirt dress can be worn alone or over leggings.
A T-shirt dress is a dress that resembles a t-shirt, except that it is long enough in length to be worn without pants or skirt. T-shirt dresses, like T-shirts, are very comfortable to wear, as they stretch and allow room for movement. Make your own no-sew T-shirt dress from scratch with fabric and adhesive tape.
Instructions
1. Measure your bust, hips and waist. Measure the length from the shoulders to your knee or above the knee, depending on where you want the hem of the dress to sit. Record your length measurement and your widest measurement.
2. Draw with fabric chalk a pattern of the T-shirt dress on a piece of cotton or polyester stretch fabric, using recorded measurements as a guide. Halve your bust, hips or waist measurement (whichever is greatest), then add two inches for the width of the dress. Use the full length measurement recorded plus two inches. Draw straight sleeves and a square or angular neck.
3. Cut out the pattern of the dress. Lay on top of a second piece of fabric and trace. Cut out the second piece.
4. Hem the edges of both pieces with no-sew adhesive tape. Measure and cut strips of tape for each straight edge, including the neck, shoulder, sleeve, under-sleeve, side and bottom hem.
5. Remove the adhesive backing on each side of the strip, place the strips along the edges of the fabric and fold the fabric up over the strip. Gently iron over the strips with the device on hot setting. Do this for both pieces of fabric.
6. Attach the two patterns together. Lay one of the pattern pieces on a table with the hemmed side facing up. Cut and place no-sew adhesive tape along both sides of the dress from the hem to the top of the shoulder. Place the second fabric piece on top of the first, carefully aligning the edges. Iron over strips to melt the tape and secure the pieces together.
