Hide The Smell Of Cigarette Smoke In The Home

Hide the Smell of Cigarette Smoke in the Home

Smoking cigarettes in a house can result in a significant odor problem, because the smoke will permeate walls, flooring, furniture and upholstery. When you wish to rectify an odor problem, hide cigarette smoke in the home by introducing other, more pleasant aromas into the home. This can be useful, especially if you are trying to sell your house, or if you quit smoking and want to remove the smoke smell.

Instructions

1. Light scented or odor-neutralizing candles, and place at least one in each room where you notice cigarette smoke odors. If you use odor-neutralizing candles, they can help add an enjoyable scent to your home while neutralizing the smoke odors you are trying to hide. Keep the candles burning as long as you wish to cover up the odors.

2. If you do not wish to burn candles, use reed diffusers dipped in scented oil in rooms where you wish to cover cigarette odors. The reeds will absorb the scented oil and disperse the scent into the room. Reed diffusers can be effective for hiding cigarette odors.

3. Fill a saucepan with 1 cup of potpourri (rose petals, cinnamon sticks, cloves, and orange peels, for example), and add 2 cups of water. Place the saucepan onto a stove burner, and set the burner to medium. When the water simmers, turn the heat down to low, and allow the potpourri to simmer on the stove top for several hours. Check the water level periodically, and add more water when needed.

4. Bake homemade cookies to cover the odors of cigarette smoke. The aroma of fresh-baked cookies will fill your home with delicious cookie smells, hiding the odor of cigarettes.

5. Fill small dishes with 1/2 cup of white vinegar. Set one or two dishes per room on tables or bookshelves. The vinegar will absorb and neutralize the cigarette odor.

6. Sprinkle carpet freshener or baking soda liberally over carpeting to cover it with an even layer of product. Allow the carpet freshener or baking soda to sit on the carpeting for 15 minutes to absorb the odors, and then vacuum.

7. Run an air purifier in rooms where you wish to remove cigarette odor. The filters in an air purifier will clean the air and remove distasteful smells. Continue running the air purifier until you cannot smell the cigarette odor.
